Dr Alberghini, Dr Emma Lewis and Dr Frank Chang are all dual qualified experienced independent oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Their areas of surgical expertise include facial trauma and reconstruction; removal of wisdom teeth; dental implants and bone grafting surgery;  oral pathology including cysts of the jaw; dento-alveolar surgery and orthognathic surgery.

Previously located at 55 Labouchere Road, South Perth, they have recently re-located to purpose built medical rooms which are conveniently located within the South Perth Hospital development at 76A South Terrace, South Perth. By prior arrangement they are also able to provide consultations in their rooms located in Duncraig. WA.

Whilst their consulting hours are Monday to Friday between 8.00am – 5.00pm, appointments after 5.00pm are available by prior arrangement.

Dr Mario Alberghini

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon – MBBS, UWA; BDsc (Hons), UWA; MDsc, OMS; FADI; FPFA

Dr Alberghini is a dual qualified consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, with degrees in Medicine and Dentistry.

After growing up on a farm in the south-west, he travelled to Perth to commence university, where he obtained a Bachelor of Dental Science with Honours, and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Western Australia.

Post qualifications, he has had experience in a wide variety of surgical disciplines before completing his advanced specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Royal Perth Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital of Melbourne, Royal Melbourne Hospital and Perth Dental Hospital.

He practices the full range of Oral Surgery, with a sub-specialty interest in Facial Trauma & Reconstruction, Dental Implant Rehabilitation and Surgical Oral Pathology, as well as Wisdom Teeth Surgery, Dento-Alveolar & Preprosthetic Surgery.

Over the years, Dr Alberghini has been involved in the teaching of Medical and Dental students, as well as advanced Surgical Trainees, and, until recently, was a Consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon at Fremantle Hospital, Royal Perth Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He is a member of the Western Australian Regional Surgical Training Committee involved with supervising the training of specialist surgeons.

Dr Alberghini is also a member of the Australian & New Zealand Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS), International Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS) and the International Team for Implantology (ITI).

He is married with 3 daughters and enjoys spending time in the south-west region where he spent much of his youth.

Dr Emma Lewis

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon – MBBS, UWA; BDsc, Edinburgh

Dr Emma Lewis is a dual qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who completed her training in Adelaide and Perth becoming a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2002. She obtained a Bachelor of Dental surgery from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Western Australia.

Emma has spent 11 years in Florida, USA where she became an Associate Professor and Director of Training at the University of Florida in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Centre for Implant Dentistry. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology.

Emma practices all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery including orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, pathology including cysts of the jaws, comprehensive implant treatment including implant placement and bone grafting as well as all aspects of dentoalveolar surgery. She operates at South Perth Hospital and St John’s Hospital Mt Lawley. Emma also enjoys teaching and is currently the Director of Training for WA OMS and is a consultant at Fiona Stanley and Fremantle Hospitals.

Dr Frank Chang

BDS, Otago; MBChB, Auckland; FRACDS, OMS

Dr Frank Chang is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with degrees in both medicine and dentistry. He completed Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Otago University in 2003 & worked at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland New Zealand, & two years as a Senior Dental officer for Hunter New England Area Health Services in New South Wales. He went on to complete degrees in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at University of Auckland in 2009. After his medical training, he spent 2 years working as a House Surgeon in Middlemore and Auckland hospital.

Frank moved to Perth to complete his specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery & was awarded the specialist qualification of FRACDS(OMS) Fellowship through Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He gained extensive experiences in the treatment of a wide range of Oral and Maxillofacial conditions. He had trained & worked across WA Health including Royal Perth Hospital, Fiona Stanley Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and Fremantle hospital.

After completing his surgical training, Frank went to the United Kingdom for further sub-specialty post fellowship training in Temporomandibular Joint surgery in the internationally renowned TMJ Surgical Unit at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. Frank also received specialised training in adult and paediatric deformity surgery and head & neck oncology surgery while he was in the UK.

Dr Chang has special interest in the surgical management of temporomandibular joint pathology  disorders, facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, & obstructive sleep apnoea. He also has expertise in dentoalveolar surgery, oral implantology and oral pathology.

Frank works in private practice in South Perth, enjoys teaching and is involved in the teaching and training of Maxillofacial Surgery trainees through his appointments at Public Teaching Hospitals.

Frank operates at South Perth Hospital, St John of God Mt Lawley, Sundew Hospital, Joondalup, and South Bank Day Surgery.

Frank also speaks Mandarin which helps with the current multicultural society.
